After impressing visitors at the Interior Design Show in Toronto, Caesarstone’s continuing collaboration with New York-based Snarkitecture reached new heights in Milan. The highlight of 2018 designer collaboration program and Milan Design Week, Altered States took Fuorisalone by storm
As the most important ingredient in the kitchen, Snarkitecture drew inspiration from water’s changing states in nature, from glaciers to rivers to geysers. Creating a contemporary, multi-tiered spectacle at Milan’s historic Palazzo dell’Ufficio Elettorale di Porta Romana, Altered States explored the different forms of this key element, from ice to liquid to steam, within the context of the modern kitchen island.
ISLANDS IN A DREAM
The kitchen island has evolved from a functional cooking area to the modern hub of the home, and an inspired setting for social interaction, entertainment and culinary performance. Highlighting this elevated status, Snarkitecture created a dreamlike kitchen island installation and pedestal amphitheatre that inspired architects, designers and consumers to consider the kitchen of the future and see Caesarstone in bold new ways.
“We took Caesarstone surfaces and turned them into something voluminous and engaging, further highlighting the strength and flexibility of the material.” – Snarkitecture
Snarkitecture’s striking, conceptual installation drew visitors into a truly immersive and engaging experience. The focal point of the exhibit was a large circular kitchen island in 5143 White Attica, with the changing states of water – ice, liquid and steam – represented at different interactive stations. Concentric circles were created using layered Caesarstone surfaces, reflecting natural topography and creating a subtle waterfall effect as the liquid flowed into the centre.
CAST OF HUNDREDS
Surrounding the main island, a multi-level amphitheatre was created using more than 250 Caesarstone and metal mesh pedestals featuring colours from the new industrial-inspired Metropolitan collection, including 4011 Cloudburst Concrete, 4033 Rugged Concrete and 4044 Airy Concrete (coming soon). Further emulating nature and rising to simulate a layered landscape, the colours created a captivating, monochromatic gradient from white to grey.
