This kitchen has become the focus of the home, as a place for social interaction, entertainment and performance. It’s where we share our cooking and our style in equal measure. Our latest collaboration for the Interior Design Show features New York-based Snarkitecture who celebrate the importance of the kitchen island as a design element, and water as one of the most important cooking elements. Known for their signature blend of architecture and art, the studio creates unexpected and memorable moments that invite people to explore and engage with their surroundings, and each other.
Elements of design
For the past five years, we’ve collaborated with renowned designers from around the world to share their unique take on Caesarstone’s quartz surfaces. This year’s innovative installation with Snarkitecture presents an artful yet practical interpretation of Caesarstone within the functional space of the modern kitchen. Making its debut at the Interior Design Show in Toronto in January, it will then travel to Milan as part of a large-scale installation for Fuorisalone.
Water is an essential ingredient in the kitchen, used in virtually all cooking techniques to create an endless array of culinary creations. Snarkitecture will explore the changing states of water from liquid, to ice, to vapour in the context of the kitchen island. Taking inspiration from the natural topography where water exists in these states, the installation gives it a bold new dimension.
“We are very interested in the shifting role of the kitchen space and wanted to be leading this discussion with the help of Snarkitecture, which has been doing exceptional thought-based work at the crossroad of art and architecture.” -Raanan Zilberman, Caesarstone CEO
A New York-based collaborative practice, Snarkitecture investigates the boundaries between art and architecture. Their name references Lewis Carroll’s The Hunting of the Snark, a poem describing the “impossible voyage of an improbable crew to find an inconceivable creature.” In its own search for the unknown, Snarkitecture focuses on the reinterpretation of everyday materials, structures and programs to new and imaginative effect. And transforming the familiar into the extraordinary.
The art of experience
Snarkitecture creates architectural-scale projects, installations, and objects with a conceptual approach centered on the importance of experience. Some notable examples include an immersive installation for fashion brand COS in Seoul, featuring thousands of glass marbles travelling around a gallery space, Kith’s gallery-inspired Miami flagship and sneaker designs for Adidas Originals by Snarkitecture’s Daniel Arsham.
